CLOTHING

Term Description
Soft shell Soft shells are elasticized fibres that guarantee maximum comfort. They consist of a soft inside layer that feels like a second skin and evacuates moisture away from the body, combined with an exceptionally strong outside layer. According the intended use, Mammut offers highly breathable models like the New Age Jacket, or – with the Ultimate Jacket – a laminated soft shell for maximum protection against wind. Soft shells offer an optimum balance of – breathability – wind-proofing – waterproofing – comfort-stretch – friction resistance
Windstopper Soft shell Up till now the Windstopper products were not elasticized and were nearly always covered with extra-fine fleece. The exclusive feature of the Ultimate Jacket is the elasticized, highly breathable, windproof fabric GORE Windstopper Elastic. This fabric has a friction-proof outer layer, which is also permanently water-repellant. Thanks to the close fit, the ideal weight of the extra features and the efficient ventilation system, this model is ideal for all kinds of sports, such as climbing, ice climbing, biking or cross-country skiing.
Windstopper The extremely light Gore membrane is inserted invisibly between two functional textile layers. This combination is windproof, water-repellent, highly breathable and fast drying. Uses: active sports such as biking, skiing, jogging, cross-country skiing, etc.
Gore-Tex Gore laminates remain unsurpassed as absolutely waterproof, breathable materials. The secret is a membrane of stretched PTFE (Polyetrafluorethylene). At first glance, the membrane looks like an extremely thin white foil. It is only under the microscope that you can see the micropores. With a diameter of 0.2 micrometers they occupy about 80% of the surface area of the membrane, in other words there are ca. 1.4 million pores in 1 cm2 Gore-Tex®. These pores create excellent breathability: moisture from the body is evacuated through the pores, while water, with its larger molecules, cannot penetrate from the outside. Gore-Tex® is available in many different versions (construction, outer fabric). Selecting the best Gore-Tex® combination for a particular jacket depends on the individual requirements of the wearer.
XCR XCR stands for eXtended Comfort Range, which means notice-ably improved comfort when wearing Gore-Tex® XCR clothing. The 25%-higher breathability is based on a new membrane technology that can transport 500 ml more moisture during a six-hour active day. XCR 3-layer fabrics attain a RET* value of under 60 and are extremely abrasion-proof. XCR 2-layer fabrics have a value of less than 40 RET*, though this value may increase a little ac-cording to the type of lining. *RET (Resistance to Evaporating Heat Transfer): the lower the value, the higher the breathability.
PacLite The new membrane technology consists of a protective layer with an oil-repellant substance and carbon. The new GORE-TEX® Paclite® laminates are: – permeable to condensation – resistant to sun creams, insect sprays and oils – lastingly waterproof – guaranteed to keep you dry
DRYtech DRYtech® is Mammut’s wind- and waterproof, highly breathable laminate. The robust polyamide outer fabric is laminated with a water-absorbing membrane. In contrast to the micro-porous GORE membrane, this system evacuates moisture electro-chemically instead of via the pores (therefore no blocked pores). The moisture penetrates the membrane and, owing to the difference in temperature, is evacuated away from the body.
Tecnopile The Italian company Pontetorto has become one of the most successful manufacturers of fleece over the past few years. The Italians are leaders in the sector of microfleece (fabrics made from microfibres). These extremely fine fibres (10,000 meters of a microfibre weigh max. 1 gr.) make a particularly soft fleece. Mammut uses microfleece in weight categories 100 and 150. Uses: alpinism, outdoor, travelling, leisurewear.
Ispira Everyone knows the advantages of the robust Mammut trekking pants. They are extremely comfortable, abrasion-proof and fast-drying. Thanks to an innovative fiber system from DuPont it is now possible to manufacture trekking pants in an elasticized fabric, making them even more comfortable. Tactel Ispira is the name of this innovative elasticized fiber system. The American company Burlington was the first fabric manufacturer to process Tactel Ispira into a highly functional fabric based on the MCS (Moisture Control System) technology.
Coolmax Coolmax is a special fibre construction from DuPont. The polyester fibre is not round, but has the shape of a flattened double eight. Due to this construction the Coolmax fibres have a 20% larger surface, ensuring superior wickability. With Coolmax clothing the wearer remains comfortably dry, even during strenuous effort. Coolmax prevents latent heat and shivering during rest periods and supports the natural cooling process during periods of exertion. Uses: ideal for all sporting activities.
Husky Peach Husky® is a high-quality fibre fleece made of finest polyester yarn. The wearing properties of Husky® are excellent: – very good heat insulation – optimal breathability and wickability – freedom of movement – kind to the skin – extremely soft touch and light – easy to care for Uses: Alpinism, outdoor activities, travelling, leisurewear.
MCS Blocker MCS means Moisture Control System. It was invented by the Burlington Company in the USA and comprises a family of polyamide- and polyester fabrics with sustained hydrophilic properties. Hydrophilic means water-attracting. In practice, this means that MCS actively transports moisture from perspiration away from the skin and distributes it over as wide an area as possible, to allow it to evaporate rapidly. MCS Blocker is a fabric with long-lasting UV protection, thanks to the fineness of the yarn and the compactness of the weave. The well-known MCS fabric now also has an average SPF (Sun Protection Factor) of 30. The wearer therefore enjoys 30 times longer protection from the sun. (For comparison: a white T-shirt protects the skin from harmful UV rays at factor 10). MCS Blocker retains its properties even when wet. Uses: an absolute must for all outdoor travelling and sports in the sun.
Cordura Cordura is a highly abrasion-resistant high-tech polyamide garn from DuPont. Mammut uses Cordura for trekking pants, making them robust and durable, as well as easy to care for. Thanks to the additional water-absorbing layer on the inside, the fabric dries very quickly. Trekking pants of MAMMUT SDT fabric are therefore the ideal companion for all outdoor activities.
Gore Balance Project In this joint project the two companies Mammut and GORE are working towards the goal of producing long-lasting, recyclable functional clothing. Each garment is made of three basic materials that can easily be sorted and recycled when no longer needed. Jackets and pants included in the Balance Project are specially marked and can be sent direct to GORE for recycling or returned to authorized sports shops.
